After Audi came out with their 420-hp V8, we’ve been wondering when Audi was going to harness the almighty glory of the V10 in their new designs for the next R8. It’s rare that such greatness is ever materialized, but by the glory of some automotive Gods, that is exactly what we are getting with the new 2010 Audi R8 5.2 V10 FSI Quattro.

We all know that the R8 was based on the Lamborghini Gallardo, so when that was upgraded to LP560-4 specs, thanks to a beefy 5.2 liter, derived from the Audi V10, we were able to see the gift that keeps on giving in the Audi R8 5.2 FSI. This beauty is going to be debuted in the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.

So what does this extra displacement mean? Well the new R8 will be the highest-powered U.S-Market offering Supercar, pounding out 518 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. The European only version, RS 6 pushes 580 horses from a twin-turbo V10, but let’s keep it local for now. The new engine only weighs 68 lbs more than the V8. The 0-60 is a mere 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 196 mph. It’s expected to get 17 mpg, which is a decent gain at the pump.

As far as looks go, one of the major differences is in the air intakes. These flare-out intakes are incorporated into the ‘side blades,” and we also see the dual oval exhaust tips replacing the quad outlets on the current R8. The lighting is getting a major upgrade, with the first production car to use all LED front lighting with 54 light emitting diodes taking care of all your lighting needs up front, according to Audi.

So how much will this cost me?” Well, if you happen to be living in Germany, it will cost you €142,400, because that’s where it is going to sell in the second quarter of 2009. “But I don’t speak German!” you proclaim. Well then wait a while you fools! When it finally touches the states, it is valued around $181,000, but by that time it might drop to $150,000 so you can get two, one for the Mrs. Before you say, “this car won’t make it to the states because of economic blah blah…” Well, let me ask you, why else would it debut in Detroit?
