5 Cities … 15 Gems of Information

When we were drumming up the idea for “Breakfast from Heaven”, we had to decide where to spread the news about 1/3 Less Fat Philly first. Finally, we chose 5 cities: Chicago, New York, Boston, Ft. Lauderdale, and Vegas. On our journey, we found out some quirky and interesting information about each city. Enjoy this food for thought.

Chicago

  1. Weird Chicago Tours - The Alternative Tour of Chicago’s Ghosts, Ghouls, and Gangsters.
  2. The “Windy City” isn’t actually that windy. Its average annual wind speed is just 10.3 mph. Chicago was nicknamed the Windy City for the politicians and city boosters who were full of "hot air."
  3. Chicago is home to the world's largest cookie and cracker factory, where Nabisco made 16 billion Oreo cookies in 1995.

 

New York

  1. Central Park, in the middle of Manhattan, covers a larger area than the principality of Monaco.
  2. New York is home to the $25,000 Frrozen Haute Chocolate dessert at Serendipity III.
  3. Midtown NYC, is the largest downtown area in the world.

 

Boston

  1. The Boston Tea Party reenactment takes place in Boston Harbor every December 16th.
  2. Boston built the first subway system in the United States in 1897.
  3. Boston cream pie, the official state dessert of Massachusetts, was invented in 1855 at the famous Parker House Hotel in Boston.

 

 Ft. Lauderdale

  1. Fort Lauderdale is known as the Venice of America because the city has 185 miles of local waterways.
  2. Spring break headquarters of the 1960’s … Fort Lauderdale.
  3. Fort Lauderdale is home to 42,000 Yachts.

 

Vegas

  1. There is one slot machine in Vegas for every 8 inhabitants.
  2. It’s against the law to pawn your dentures in Las Vegas.
  3. Miles of lighted neon tubing on the Strip and Downtown Vegas: 15,000.
