If you were following this year’s WonderCon, you may have caught an early glimpse of “Alien Trespass,” a movie that wanted to pay homage to the early 50s movies. You remember those iconic movies, The Blob, Godzilla, Dracula, Frankenstein, King Kong, the list goes on and on. You know, those oldies but goldies.

Well when Roadside Attractions came to us talking about “Alien Trespass” my eyes lit up, because I was following WonderCon and I’m an avid watcher of “Attack of the Show,” so I had seen the short piece they had on Alien Trespass. I was even more psyched when they asked us to go to a private screening to get a first look at the movie, and I was blown away.

I’ll just give a small blurb about the plot, without any spoilers, just so you can get an idea of what’s going on. The movie takes place in a small town in Mojave, CA, which is in the middle of nowhere. The small town is rocked when an intergalactic bounty hunter’s space ship, carrying a dangerous and evil alien (named Ghota), crashes into the mountain side. The monster escapes, and the bounty hunter, named Urp (reference to Wyatt Earp maybe?) possesses the body of Astronomer Ted Lewis (Eric McCormick from “Will and Grace” and “Trust Me”) in order to catch the monster Ghota. The story then takes off into awesome 50s movie fashion, by having one movie character at a time getting killed off in hilarious fashion.

Now that you’re up to speed, let me talk about what I loved about the movie. The amazing DETAIL! The fashion, mannerisms, hairdos, the CARS, everything about the movie was spot on with the 50s. Then again, what else could you expect from former X-file director R.W Goodwin? He really outdid himself on this one. The movie captured the 50s movie feel perfectly. With so much flashiness in movies these days, it was a nice relief to get back to the original roots of monster movies. That and having Jenni Baird, Jody Thompson, Sarah Smyth, and even Robert Patrick (Terminator’s T1000) didn’t hurt either.

The movie comes full circle by staying true to the roots of the 50s, with today’s technology. It’s the ultimate nostalgia movie with a great cast, a great feel, great directing, and a funny undertone. Watching a 1950s film nowadays is unintentionally funny, and that’s just what R.W. Goodwin went for, and he nailed it right on the head.

Here’s the video from Attack of the Show with Blair Butler (Forward to 1:15)
