America Wanted Wall-E & Jolie

The weekend box office was HOT HOT HOT with both Wall-E and Wanted, taking the top two spots. The critically-acclaimed Disney-Pixar film was #1, raking in over $62 million. This marked the 2nd best June opening ever, behind Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban ($94.7 million).
The Angelina Jolie actioner Wanted blasted to 2nd place, besting expectations with $51 million. This marked the highest R-rated opening ever in June, beating last summer’s Knocked Up. It was also Jolie’s biggest opening ever.
Summer box office grosses are up 4% over last year, making summer 2008 the best on record so far.
