Best U.S. Summer Beaches
Posted on 26 June 2008 by Sharifa
What’s the best thing about summer? Going to the beach is neck and neck with sipping margaritas, in my book. Since we are officially 5 days into the summer season, it only seems fair that I bestow upon you this list of the best beaches to hit up this summer. Grab your beach blanket, your surf board, some shades and your sunscreen. Here’s where to head for ultimate fun in the sun.
Long summer days and nights can seem even longer when you have no one to share them with. If you are looking for romance to bloom, check out either one of these two beaches, which are Best for Sparking Romance.
Wailea, Hawaii
Named after a Demi God, and with good reason, this place is every bit of a Heaven here on Earth. Flock to this beach to take in the sight of the majestic Humpback whales who come to these warm waters in the summer and relax alongside the tourists, or do some sea side shopping. However you choose to spend your time, just sit back, relax, and wait for love to come to you.
East Hampton, New York
New Yorkers run here the second the temps become unbearable, but they aren’t the only ones. Beach goers worldwide have fallen under the spell of this stretch of luxurious beach due to it’s small town charm, sprawling scenery, and pretty people. And what’s more beautiful than two pretty people falling in love, besides one of those pretty people being rich?
If you are pulling an extra couple hundred pounds, otherwise known as your family, with you to the beach then you can’t go wrong with these two beaches. One on either coast, these beaches are Best for Families.
Kiawah Island, South Carolina
Nestled off the coast of South Carolina and only 21 miles from Charleston, this beach is a hidden treasure. I didn’t even know S.C had islands. This beach is great for the outdoorsy family. Dad and mom can tee off on a world renowned golf course and the kiddies can enjoy daytime tennis camps. Afterwards head to the shore and play in Kaiwah’s calm waters. End your day by dining at one of many seaside eateries.
Santa Barbara, California
Head up the coast past Los Angeles and visit this popular beach getaway for the rich and famous. Speckled with tidepools for the little ones to explore and great surfing there’s something for the kids and teens in your family. If you can pull yourself away from the surf and sand, then take in a show at the historical Arlington Theatre.
Ok, so now we get to my favorite part of the list. For those of us who aren’t saddled with a family, summer is the time of year when we can really kick up our heels and partake in some REAL fun. These beaches are Best for Drunken Debauchery.
South Padre, Texas
Being from the Lone Star State, of course I’ve been here and it was everything I’d ever dreamed it would be. Home to the original “MTV Spring Break” this place is just as rowdy during the summer season, perfect for indulging in acute alcohol poisoning. With it’s warm shallow waters it will be less of a hassle for your friends when they have to pull you out of the ocean after you pass out.
South Beach, Florida
This place is the Hollywood of the east coast. A feast for the eyes, you can see scantily clad men and women with perfectly tan bodies parading around in swimsuits made from string. Go here to party but not if you want to feel better about yourself. If you’re susceptible to anorexia then maybe you should bypass this beach.

You forgot my ‘Best For Drunken Debauchery’ beach – Panama City, or PCB. Cheap lodgings, great parties, happy times.
