Do You Do Diet Soda?

| | Comments (6)
soda.jpgI'm trying to quit. I used to drink about 8 diets sodas each day ... until I read something about 6 years ago that said they are really bad for you. There are tons of articles sighting various reasons to abstain from the curiously addicting beverage. Some claim diet sodas actually cause weight gain because your body is tricked into thinking you ate sugar but once it realizes no calories have been consumed, your craving for sugar increases and you eat more. Other say the phosphoric acid leeches calcium from your bones ... hmmm, not pretty. I've cut back to about 3 cans a week with the hope of quitting all together by 2009. So, do you do diet soda?

Anything will kill you if you abuse it! Diet soda and other products are not meant for weightloss but for diabetics.

i gave up diet soda about a year and a half ago...cold turkey. After traveling through europe and noticing that no one drinks diet drinks or that there really is not "diet" type foods and people are much healthier I gave them up completely...along with many other diet food products.

if I want a coke or a ginger ale I have one but not more diet soda for me. Actually I love two carbinated drinks:

Reeds Ginger Beer - a stronger ginger tasting ginger ale. VERY good with a squeeze of lemon

POM Spritzers - POM juice and seltzer with a wedgle of lime. Great alternative to soda and better for you. (u can use any juice you like, I use cranberry when i'm out of POM. But POM blueberry is GREAT for this...YUM)

Italian sodas are the best alternative. You can get Torani syrups and seltzer and make your own sodas the calories are half of the canned demons. My fav is an orange Italian soda with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. YUM!

I usually drink three liters of Diet Pepsi a day at work just to stay awake. When I drank regular soda I gained weight so I changed to diet soda and do not. I know about the dangers of aspartame, but frankly I am more in danger from the medications my doctors put me on without telling me of the side effects. Trust me on that.

If we stopped eating and drinking everything that was bad for us in some way we would not eat factory farm meat, fast food, cheese (it usually has blood in it - research that) and we wouldn't drink coffee, alcohol, or any number of other things we currently do eat and drink. Just think of how much is genetically modified today!

Very true! The key is moderation. I think you are OD-ing on Diet Pepsi. You are addicted to the caffeine and that is why you need it to stay awake. Trust me I need 2 venti double strength black iced coffees a day to get through. I sometimes ween off for a week but the head aches are killing.

you have to get off the caffine cycle, you're kidding yoursel if you think its helphing you. caffine is just like a drug, the more you take the more your body thinks it needs. Fueling your body with good, healthy food and beverages will help you keep your energy at a good level all day long with few highs and lows.

you can quit caffine cold turkey...try half caffine/half decaf until you are comfortable and then go all decaf. I use to drink coffee all day long...about a year and a half ago I weened myself off and now I have one regular coffee in the AM and that's it.

i think we are over caffinated in this country and having a starbucks or dunkin' donuts coffee in hand has become trendy.
