Green Travel Tips

  1. Get on the internet to find your holiday—14 trees are needed to produce 10,000 travel brochures, so booking online saves an enormous amount of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
  2. If you can't avoid flying, offsetting is a step in the right direction. Go for offsets with certified emissions reductions, verified by the Kyoto protocol.
  3. Pack it in! Pack less and only take what’s necessary—it’s easier for you and the aircraft’s fuel impact.
  4. Parents, take biodegradable nappies (diapers). You might not find them where you're going.
  5. Only use hotel A/C when absolutely necessary, and don’t leave it on when you’re not in the room. You might not be paying for it, but the environment is.
  6. Switch off and unplug appliances. Save more energy with a solar-powered charger—no excuses if you’re going somewhere warm!
  7. Don’t over-do it with water. We’re not asking you to die of thirst—most tourists use more in 24 hours than Third Worlders do in 100 days.
  8. Tell your hotel you don’t need clean sheets and towels every day. Hang the “do not disturb” sign up until you really need housekeeping help.
