Guitar Hero: World Tour Guitar ‘Slider Bar’ Mystery

Posted on 21 May 2008 by Erik

Though it’s close to the midnight hour we at ConsolePatrol never stop working.  I noticed something interesting tonight when re-tolerating that Guitar Hero: World Tour trailer and took a few screens, nothing solid of course, just some intriguing visuals on the alleged new guitars for the game.  Whoever directed the commercial obviously had strict instructions to avoid having any clear shots of the guitar controllers:

Guitar_Hero_World_Tour_Guitar_Mystery_05.jpgIf you follow the neck of the guitar past the buttons you can make out some blurry colors on the ‘buttonless’ frets; blue near the orange button and yellow down towards the base of the guitar, along with some other indistinguishable colors, here’s a closer look:

I thought it was weird, maybe it was just that the guitar
had some stickers on it, but in a licensed commercial?  It could be a similar function to Rock Band’s solo/hammer-on buttons.  I kept looking around the video and then came across something a little more concrete:

Yes I know, great ‘O face’ but look in the bottom middle of the image with the guitar neck, definitely some kind of bar that I’ve never seen on a guitar hero controller before, again a closer look:

I hope my fancy arrows help point the way.  Guitar Hero Conspiracy!  What could it be?  Maybe some kind of slide function to make hammer-ons and pull-offs more realistic, some kind of Star Power bar that fills up and activates at the touch, or something entirely different for the custom song maker or online modes.

Of course it’s all specualation, but intriguing indeed.  Going through the video I also got a couple of cool shots of the drums that I haven’t seen posted anywhere yet:

Well very interesting find! You made me realize what I think it is really for! When watching people play a guitar, you can sometimes see them move there hands down closer to the lower part of the stem of the guitar for solos… so maybe it slides down for solos… or maybe you slide it down to even start hammering on the higher sounding notes… just guesses, but I think I got something… but who knows…

GUitar Hero World Tour is the Wii/PS3/Xbox360/PS2(?) game. Guitar Hero World Tour is Guitar Hero 4. Guitar Hero On Tour is the DS version set to come out next month (june)

The Guitar Hero DS title is called ‘On Tour’. They (Activision) recently announced the actual name of Guitar Hero 4 is Guitar Hero: World Tour, probably taking the number off since it’s a completely different game than the first three with the addition of instruments, and other new modes and functions.

I thought world tour was the DS version and guitar hero 4 was the console one with the drums……either way nice find!!

  12. Andrew Says:

Wouldn’t this be guitar hero 4. World tour is the DS guitar Hero that comes out next month……and seeing the drum set i assume the title should be guitar hero 4….

    just wondering….interesting find

Based on the Game Informer article about GH:WT, it would appear that there is a slide function. Something about “clear” notes that were unlike anything seen before in a GH game. They weren’t allowed to comment, but the subtle hints led me to believe the notes were to emulate a slide, and the clear graphic could be reminiscent of a coricidin bottle slide.
