Is Tussin suggesting we chug their cold medicine straight from the tap? Read on down to the warnings where it states boldly KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

Indications

Temporarily relieves cough due to minor throat and bronchial irritation as may occur with a cold. Helps loosen phlegm (mucus) and thin bronchial secretions to make coughs more productive.

Directions

  • Adults and children 12 years and over: 2 teaspoonfuls every 4 hours, not to exceed 12 teaspoonfuls in 24 hours, or as directed by a doctor.
  • Children 6 years to under 12 years: 1 teaspoonful every 4 hours, not to exceed 6 teaspoonfuls in 24 hours, or as directed by a doctor.
  • Children 2 years to under 6 years: 1/2 teaspoonful every 4 hours, not to exceed 3 teaspoonfuls in 24 hours, or as directed by a doctor.
  • Children under 2 years: ask a doctor

Store at controlled room temperature 59°-86°F (15°-30°C).
Sodium Content: 3 mg per 5 mL (one teaspoonful).

Active Ingredients: Guaifenesin (100 mg), Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide (10 mg)

Inactive Ingredients: Citric Acid, Corn Syrup, FD&C Red 40, Flavor, Glycerin, Water (Purified), Saccharin Sodium, Sodium Benzoate, May Contain: Sodium Hydroxide (To Adjust pH)

Drug Interaction Precautions

Do not use this product if you are now taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI)(certain drugs for depression, psychiatric or emotional conditions, or Parkinson's disease), or for 2 weeks after stopping the MAOI drug. If you are uncertain whether your prescription drug contains an MAOI, consult a health professional before taking this product.

Warnings

Do not take this product for persistent or chronic cough such as occurs with smoking, asthma, chronic bronchitis, or emphysema, or where cough is accompanied by excessive phlegm (mucus) unless directed by a doctor. A persistent cough may be a sign of a serious condition. If cough persists for more than 1 week, tends to recur, or is accompanied by a fever, rash, or persistent headache, consult a doctor. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. As with any drug, if you are pregnant or nursing a baby, seek the advice of a health professional before using this product. In case of accidental overdose, seek professional assistance or contact a poison control center immediately.
