Hunger in America: Make a Difference
Posted on 03 June 2009 by Manny
Childhood hunger is not a topic that most people touch upon in daily conversations. Unfortunately, hunger is a reality for children in America every day whether we’re talking about it or not. To some this is very surprising, particularly given that the U.S. is the richest nation in the world.
By the end of the year, more than 12 million children in America will worry about where their next meal will come from. A staggering 1-out-of-6 children are at risk of hunger in America today, and the problem is only getting worse. Over 500,000 more children are living in poverty now than a year ago; that’s half a million hungry kids throughout America. Luckily, there is help out there and there are opportunities for you to get involved and make a difference!
C&H Sugar and Domino Sugar are teaming up to help fight childhood hunger, by sponsoring the Great American Bake Sale. Along with Share our Strength, they are helping people organize bake sales to combat these heartbreaking statistics. Since 2003, the “Great American Bake Sale” has raised nearly $5 Million! Find out how you can host your own bake-sale or even sponsor one in your community by visiting www.DominoBakeSale.com or www.CandHBakeSale.com. This is a great opportunity to have an impact on a growing problem throughout our nation.
