Joaquin Phoenix Quitting Hollywood
Posted on 30 October 2008 by Manny
Joaquin Phoenix is quitting Hollywood at the prime age of 34. He mentioned it to E! Online reporter, Jason Kennedy, on Monday’s benefit for Paul Newman’s charity, The Association of Hole in the Wall Camps.
This comes as a shock because Phoenix has been an active and successful actor for years, landing big movies like Gladiator, Signs, Walk the Line, as well as other blockbuster hits. He said that his upcoming movie, Two Lovers with Gwyneth Paltrow, is going to be his last Hollywood movie. He stated:
“This will be my last performance as an actor. I’m not doing films anymore… I’ve been through that. I’ve done it… I’m dead serious.”
Those are some strong words, but I wonder what prompted him to say something like that. I think there may be more happening “behind the scenes” than that. What do you think?
