LA County Fair- Fry Me a River
Posted on 08 September 2008 by joy
I thought I had lost my chance at the 2008 summer fair season. I hadn’t made it to one single fair this summer. That means no pie contests, no Ferris Wheels, no displays of farm animals, and sadly, no fried Snickers bars.
I certainly counted my lucky stars when I found out that the LA County Fair was going to be in town all through September! There’s the fair favorites that you can count on: petting zoo, the beer and wine areas, the barnyard animals, the concerts and the rides. My favorite part of the fair, without a doubt, is the food. We’re not just talking corn dogs with mustard, I’m talking about unapologetic, All-American fried food.
“Chicken Charlie” is the master of all things fried, and he might just be my favorite person on the planet. Charlie Boghosian, also known as “Chicken Charlie”, is a San Diego native who travels to California state fairs for 5 months out of the year, delighting the state with his fried genius. With delights like deep fried Oreos, deep fried avocados, deep fried cheesecake and deep fried Coke. “Chicken Charlie” is the sole reason that I’m going to the fair this year. Right now the thought of Deep Fried Pop Tarts is what gets be out of bed in the morning. Seriously. Could you ever imagine that something as magical as Deep Fried Pop Tarts could exist in the world? As soon as I get my hands on one, I’ll report back. It will be glorious. I guarantee.
Watch the glory that is a Deep Fried Pop Tart.

I thought county fairs only happened in the South and the mid-west. Very cool to know that LA has one!
