Mamma Mia… The Reviews Are In!

Oscar legend Meryl Streep turned the U.K. on its head last night with the world premiere of Universal’s highly anticipated Mamma Mia. Streep joined co-stars Colin Firth, Pierce Bronson and producers Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson at the Odeon Leicester Square in London to screaming paps and fans.
The film, which will be released in the states on July 18th, is a musical based on the legendary Swedish band, Abba’s songs, including Dancing Queen and The Winner Takes It All. The story follows a bride-to-be trying to track down her real father.
Industry bible The Hollywood Reporter has already released its review of the film and it’s a rave, calling it “the most fun to be had at the movies this or any other recent summer.”
As for leading lady Streep, in her first musical no less, it says, “It’s no stretch to think of her performance in Oscar terms, ranking with previous musical winners such as Liza Minnelli, Barbra Streisand and Catherine Zeta-Jones.”
