Nintendo DSi Announced, Includes Downloadable Games
Posted on 02 October 2008 by Erik
Nintendo has unveiled the Nintendo DSi, the latest version of its DS handheld. The portable system will be released on November 1st in Japan for the price of approximately $180.
The Nintendo DSi will sport a larger 3.25 inch screen, two cameras with a resolution of 640×480 pixels (VGA) each, unspecified audio enhancements, and come in both black and white. The new device will feature built-in memory for the storage of games and pictures as well as a new SD card slot.
Owners will be able to use the extra memory by purchasing downloadable games from Nintendo’s online store using a new Nintendo Point currency–apparently seperate from Wii Points. Games will be categorized into four price levels: free, 200, 500, and 800 Points. Additionally, Nintendo is giving away 1000 Points with the purchase of a DSi until March 2010.
The DSi will also have a 12% size reduction as compared to the DS, though the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot has, unsuprisingly, been removed.
Other relevant notes include the Nintendo DS web browser will be a built-in feature and pictures taken with the DSi camera can be edited using the handheld’s touch screen.
