Skip the Champagne, Say Hello to Prosecco
Posted on 03 December 2008 by joy
I recently became a believer in Prosecco.
What is Prosecco? Think of Prosecco as the Italian version of Champagne. Prosecco is a chilled sparkling white wine that comes from the Veneto region of Italy- we’re talking northern Venice.
Here’s the deal with Champagne and Prosecco. Champagne can only be called Champagne if the grapes are grown in the Champagne region of France. Otherwise the sparkling white wine has to be called just that, sparkling wine. The same goes for Prosecco. It can only be called Prosecco if the grapes are grown in two specific regions of Veneto. Otherwise, it’s just not Prosecco.
Prosecco is going to be my go to holiday drink in the coming months. It’s got the perfect sparkle for that fancy holiday party, it’s dry and sophisticated and I won’t have to shell out big bucks like I do for champagne. Prosecco comes at a great price. You can buy a great bottle of Prosecco for about $30 and be more than thrilled with your purchase.
For that holiday party, buy a bottle of Prosecco and mix up Poinsettia Cocktails- a festive blend of Prosecco, cranberry juice, orange liqueur and fresh cranberries. You also might try a Pomegranate Prosecco Cocktail Do you know a wine guy? Go ask him about Prosecco! It’s the perfect social lubricant.
