Stone Age Dieting

There are all kinds of diet trends out on the market. From systems like the Atkins diet to crazy crash dieting like the cabbage soup diet, some programs are more successful than others.
My favorite diet trend to date is the Paleolithic Diet. Yes. Eat like a Neanderthal. It turns out that our club swinging ancestors weren’t skinny and svelte because they ran after their food instead of waiting in line at a drive though. While I’m sure the chase contributed to their lean frames, another huge factor is that their bodies didn’t have to put up with all of the processed crap that we subject out bodies to.
When researchers put 14 people on the Paleolithic diet, a diet full of lean proteins, vegetables, berries and nuts, they shed an average of five pounds per week. They also lowered their Body Mass Index and blood pressure. That’s a success. It seems that swearing off processed foods lowers a person’s caloric intake by 36 percent. With a diet full of meats and veggies, there is a distinct lack of calcium. To make up for that, add low fat dairy to the Paleolithic diet.
