Subaru Withdraws from World Rally Championship

Subaru makers, Japan’s Fuji Heavy Industries, announced that Subaru is withdrawing from the world rally championships because of the global financial crisis.
“Our business environment has rapidly deteriorated. In order to protect the Subaru brand we were forced to make this decision.”
We know that the Japanese pride themselves in their performance and work ethic, and Fuji Heavy President, Ikuo Mori is no exception. You can even see that he was fighting back tears as he made the announcement.
He mentioned that the economic slump and the decrease in car sales as primary reasons. The decision had already been made to pull out by the end of 2009, but the impending situation with the economy made them announce it early.
This is just another blow that auto racing has seen since Suzuki announced they were withdrawing from the 2009 world rally, as well as the major shock of Honda withdrawing from Formula One earlier this month.
