Having trouble sleeping? Head to the kitchen for a quick snack. Here are some healthy, and surprising midnight snack options that will kick drive your body into sleep mode. Now, if you’re like me and you have a cat that likes to jump on your head just as you’re dozing off… well, these snacks may not help with that. So sorry.

Almonds A handful of these heart-healthy nuts and you’ll have some heavy eyelids. They contain tryptophan- the stuff in turkey that puts you in a coma after Thanksgiving dinner.

Oatmeal There’s something cozy about a warm bowl of oatmeal with a splash of maple syrup. And if you had a light dinner and find yourself with some serious munchies late at night, a bowl of oatmeal is sure to keep you full. And that bowl of oatmeal will invite melatonin which will help you drift away into sleep.

Flaxseeds Is feeling down keeping you up? Believe it or not, 2 Tablespoons of ground flaxseeds can lift you spirits and help you get to sleep. Sprinkle a few tablespoons on a warm bowl of oatmeal and happily drift off to sleep.

Whole Wheat Bread A slice of toast with honey helps your body release insulin which helps tryptophan get to your brain. Enjoy a cup of chamomile tea with your toast and you’ll be to sleep before you head even hits the pillow.
