Surfas Restaurant Supply and Gourmet Market is easily one of my favorite places in Los Angeles. I could roam their seemingly endless aisles of sprinkles, flours and saute pans for hours. I could happily spend a good portion of my day and an even greater portion of my bank account at Surfas.
Surfas has been family owned and operated since 1937. They stock their store full of the finest imported and domestic foods, unique ingredients and virtually all of the cookware items that you can dream up. Their staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and seems to love food as much as I do. Surfas is also famous for their amazing commercial kitchen design.
Surfas also has a lovely adjoining cafe. Serving breakfast and lunch, this cafe is the perfect place to stop after an afternoon of expensive browsing. On my last visit I enjoy the the Heirloom Tomato Salad and a Lavender Lemon Bar.
The Heirloom Tomato Salad was the perfect expression of summer with seasonal tomatoes, super soft mozzarella, roasted garlic and fragrant and flavorful olive oil. Simple and so delicious.
The Lavender Lemon Bars had fresh lavender sprinkled on top and also baked into the crust. It created more of a fragrance than a taste. The lemon filling was the perfect combination of cream and tart lemon. Just lovely.

LOVE Surfas! What great food and cooking stuff. It’s a cooks Disneyland! Unfortunately I have not had great food at the cafe. I haven’t been there in a few months. I’ll try it again.
