There are two kinds of people in the world. Those that appreciate a good and greasy taco stand and those that hold their noses up in the air at the thought of standing in line and ordering their food from someone wearing a hairnet.

I fall under the first category. I absolutely love taco stands. There’s something endearing about going up to a stand, ordering from a woman wearing an old fashioned, watching her walk away and make your food, and fining a small outdoor spot to sit amongst sometimes screaming children and always hungry pigeons. My favorite in Los Angeles is Tito’s Taco’s in Culver City.

Tito’s Tacos has represented everything a taco stand should be since 1959. I think Tito’s is the perfect combination of greasy, homemade comfort food and Mexican taco stand. I love that they have a fairly simple and straight forward menu. Your taco shell, for example, will be fried. You don’t have an option. If you’d like diced or sauteed onions or fresh sliced avocados, dream on. What Tito’s does have to offer is amazing slow roasted carne asada in cheesy burritos and shredded beef in crispy tacos. It’s a total guilty pleasure and worth every greasy bite. Prices are relatively low and food is consistently hot and greasy goodness.

For the reasons I love it, other absolutely hate it. Some people just have no love for the old, established taco stand that sticks to their guns and doesn’t offer the latest trend of steamed veggie tacos or tofu burritos.  I understand.  If that’s the case, your local Baja Fresh should suit you just fine.
