The Best Mojito

I love having cocktail parties to celebrate summer, and really any time of the year. My last Mango Margarita party was such a success that I’m already planning my next cocktail-centered summer party. I think that The Perfect Mojito is my new muse. The mojito is a traditional Cuban drink with rum, lime, and mint. It’s served with lots of mint and lime in the glass over ice. So refreshing and perfect on a hot summer afternoon.
Here are some tips to make the perfect mojito. Tips courtesy of MyWhimIsLaw.
Make You Own Lime Simply Syrup- In a small sauce pan heat 1 cup of water and 2/3 cup granulated sugar and 1/3 cup brown sugar. Heat until the sugar is dissolved. Add 1 cup of mint leaves and cover and steep for 30 minutes, then remove the mint and cool.
Instead of seltzer or sparkling water use inexpensive champagne or ginger beer. Add all the flavor you can!
Add a dash or two of Angostura bitters.
One Perfect Mojito- How To
In a tall, sturdy glass or shaker pour 1 ounce of simple syrup and a handful of fresh mint leaves (6-12 leaves). Muddle with a blunt instrument until mint leaves are bruised and fragrant. Add 5-6 ice cubes and continue to muddle.
Add 2 ounces rum, 1 ounce lime juice and a dash of bitters. Stir vigorously.
Pour into a tall glass, ice and all, and cover with a splash of champagne or ginger beer. Garnish with a lime wedge and mint leaves.
Cheers!
