The Worst Fish, EVER!

houstons-425x154 The Worst Fish, EVER!

All weekend I was craving fish. Instead of heading over the hill to Santa Monica, for some yummy Bar-Hayama sushi, we opted to head over the hill to Century City, to try out HOUSTON’S. This was my first experience at this steakhouse but any restaurant at Westfield Century City Mall has to be good. After waiting for about 15 minutes we were seated. The hostesses were all smiles the second we walked into the door, which I loved. Good customer service goes a long way. This place needed it. Our waitress, Laura, promptly greeted us, and didn’t give us dirty looks when we ordered “water to start.” For our appetizer we had the spinach and artichoke dip, which was good, not the best I’ve had but still pretty decent. After hearing the fish of the day, I felt compelled to order it. After all, who can say no to a grilled Halibut fillet in a better herb sauce? We had a glass of Riesling to go with our meal which I was very impressed with, not being a big fan of Riesling. The loaded mashed potato was perfect, the ambiance was perfect, our fish, however was not. It was literally the worst fish I’ve ever had in my life. Talk about over cooking. The fish was charred beyond recognition, and so dry that I had to use a steak knife to cut it. Within the first few bites the fresh fish taste was overpowered by the burned taste. Not one to send food back, I barely touched it and left it on my plate to grow cold. I don’t know where they get their cooks, but grilling the life out of a wonderfully meaty cut of Halibut is abhorrent! Someone back there needed to go back to culinary school. Needless to say our dinning experience, which up to that point had been great, was utterly ruined. I went home hungry. This is one steak house that does not serve fish that’s just as good. For those of you who actually live in Houston, save yourself some money and head to Pappadeaux.
