I have a confession to make- I’m a pretty hardcore Top Chef junkie.  You know what Top Chef is, of course you do.  It’s a cooking competition that takes great chefs from around the country and makes them cook up the finest, most creative dishes under unbelievable pressure.  It’s an amazingly entertaining and super successful show.  And as with any success, they’re milking their fans’ pocket books with a cookbook.

While I often raise a sceptical eyebrow at the thought of another television based cookbook, this one has actually peaked my interest.

top-chef-the-cookbook Top Chef- The CookbookThe first 35 pages of the book are dedicated to an introduction by Tom Colicchio (one of the shows primary judges) and a behind the scenes look at the show.  It’s totally engrossing.  Seriously a great way to waste at least an hour.  You’ll find out why the show works and get loads of Top Chef secrets.

The recipe portion of the book is dedicated to the recipes of the chef contestants.  Think of it as the best of Top Chef food, but still totally accessible.  Remember when the chefs had to make breakfast in their pajamas for Padma in Miami?  No?  I’m the only freak that remembers that?  Well my favorite breakfast treats from that episode, eggs in a whole, and steak and eggs, are in the book.  Yea… so it’s pretty cool.  Side note-  how do I get Padma’s job hosting the show and eating all that fantastic food?  Seriously.

Overall, the Top Chef Cookbook is perfect for the Top Chef fanatic.  It’s also a great cookbook, but might be lost on someone who isn’t totally into the show.  The recipes are fun and approachable, and the pictures and behind the scenes action make the book well worth a buy.
