Trained Actors Drop the Caped Crusader

“The Dark Knight” was finally dethroned from its number one spot this weekend as “Tropic Thunder” takes the spotlight. After four weeks at the number one spot, “Tropic Thunder” was able to edge out the caped crusader by selling an estimated $26.0 million in ticket sales, as opposed to the $16.8 million that “The Dark Knight” came up with at the box office.
“The Dark Knight” was able to uphold the top spot for four weeks, building up $471 million, which surpassed “Star Wars” which had built a healthy $461 million in its release in 1977. With “Star Wars” under its belt, “The Dark Knight” can set its sights on the appropriately named “Titanic,” which holds the all time number one spot, grossing a whopping $601 million. Will “The Dark Knight” maintain enough momentum to sink the “Titanic” for good? Only time will tell.
