Tropic Premieres To Thunderous Protests

Last night the A-listers stormed the red carpet at Mann’s Village Theater for the Dreamworks premiere of Tropic Thunder. But they were joined by hundreds of protesters, criticizing the movie’s portrayal of the mentally disabled. (Writer/Director Ben Stiller sends-up films like Forrest Gump and Rain Man.)
Ben Stiller told MTV News, “It’s sort of edgy territory, but we felt that as long as the focus was on the actors who were trying to do something to be taken seriously that’s going too far or wrong, that was where the humor would come from.”
The film’s stars Robert Downey Jr., Jack Black, Tom Cruise and Matthew McConaughey joined Stiller for the throngs of flashbulbs. In addition, Jodie Foster, Tobey Maguire and Jason Bateman attended the premiere.
The film opens on Wednesday.
