Talk about security fail! The headlines sound funny, but 55 year-old Felix Batista was in Saltillo in Coahuila state to offer some of his golden advice on how to confront abductions for ransom, when he was seized at gunpoint.

Unknown assailants took him on Dec. 10, according to the president of security firm ASI Global LLC, where Batista is a consultant.

This guys is a veteran who was out in Mexico to give his anti-kidnapping advice, and then he was taken away. How ironic is that! Could it be a case of fake it ‘till you make it or what? Well I’m sure when you get caught off guard, and have a barrel up your nose, you forget everything, or better put, everything goes out the window and that’s it.

So far there hasn’t been a ransom or anything like that, but kidnappings in Mexico have been out of control, and this might just be an act of smug defiance at the state’s futile attempts at control. Now, the Coahuila governor is proposing that the death penalty be enacted again for kidnappers who kill their victims. It was barred in 2005, but it doesn’t sound like a bad idea to me. These people should burn. I do hope that Batista gets out ok, but I wonder how his career will do after the fact.
