Versace’s Refrigerated Beach
Posted on 16 December 2008 by Veronica
Versace is going to create the world’s first refrigerated beach so guests can walk comfortable on the burning hot summer sand in Dubai. Summer temperatures in Dubai range from 104 degrees to 122 degrees and the sand becomes unbearable to walk on…but is refrigerating the beach really necessary? I know that Dubai is solely catering to the really rich but, I am not so sure making the refrigerating the sand is the best idea…can’t they just supply people with water shoes or sandals?
The Times Online posted that:
The beach will have a network of pipes beneath the sand containing a coolant that will absorb heat from the surface.
The swimming pool will be refrigerated and there are also proposals to install giant blowers to waft a gentle breeze over the beach.
This idea is seriously angering environmentalists and I totally agree. Unless they can be sure that this can be made in a sustainable matter, it is just a horribly backwards idea. You can read the entire article here and come to a conclusion yourself.
However, It really shouldn’t be all about focusing on keeping the rich happy and comfortable, it is time to think about the future of our planet and the fact that this would seriously contribute to climate change. In all honesty how important is making sure the rich and famous’ feet are kept comfortable while on vacation in Dubai!?
